Meet the trainer, Wendi Newman, CPDT, CDBC

I have always had animals in my life; frankly I cannot imagine being without a pet in my home. I believe animals are here to enrich our lives, to make us grow, question our worlds, and deepen our understanding of love. I have experience training and living with dogs, cats, horses, and parrots, but my primary focus is dogs.
Most trainers can point to a specific animal in their lives that made them want to become a trainer. I actually have had three dogs who, over a period of several years, informed me that helping other canines was my path. I humbly accepted this, and it now brings great joy to me to see a dog and his handler understand and communicate with each other more fully.

Education and certifications are critically important for animals trainers and behavior consultants. I have a Bachelor of Science degree (Honors), and in 2010, I received a Level II Certification in Canine Behavior Evaluation and Modification from Marin Humane’s Canine Behavior Academy with Trish King. I am a CPDT-KA, certified professional dog trainer- knowledge assessed, a professional member of APDT (Association of Professional Dog Trainers), a CDBC, certified dog behavior consultant, with the IAABC (International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants) and PPG (Pet Professional Guild), and am an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator. I regularly attend seminars, read popular and academic papers, and keep myself informed on the latest techniques and behavioral science so that I can translate the best instruction to my clients.
Because I feel so strongly about the positive influence animals have on the human experience, the relationship my clients have with their dogs is of paramount importance to me. All training and behavior modification I teach use only humane methods. I believe kind and compassionate treatment will produce the longest lasting behavior changes you seek for your dog. Incorporating clear boundaries that are simple for your household to use every day will enable your family and your dog to live happily and peacefully together.
